What color hardwood floors would look good w/ dark oak built in cabinets?

I would like to rip the carpet up and put down hardwood flooring, but I am unsure of the colors. Are you supposed to match the color of the flooring to the cabinets or are you supposed to go another shade?

I would go a lighter shade to make the room appear a little bigger..dark and light do match..a dark floor will make the size of your place look alot smaller especially with dark cabinets already…I personally like a light oak stain or even natural..natural may be too light for you..but I would go lighter for sure

You will want to go lighter. Over time your floors will darken. A light oak would look great with your cabinets. Just a note put down oak flooring it will last better.

Like the other poster said….I would go lighter. We put Maple cabinets in our kitchen. They have a lighter stain on them. We put down Brazilian Cherry floors. They are very dark (and getting darker) and the contrast looks good together.

In your case I would put down oak floors, just don’t stain them. Red Oak looks real nice I have it in the rest of my house.
